Pittsfield- Dorothy
Goodwin, 76, died peacefully on January 13, 2009 surrounded by her
loving family.
She was born in Pittsfield on September 22, 1932, the
daughter of Orlando and Ruby (Hartwell) Bates, Sr.
She was educated in Pittsfield schools and worked for over 30
years at Northeast Shoe and San Antonio Shoe.
On October 17, 1950, Dorothy married Donald R.
Good win, Sr., and together they raised four children.
She loved cooking, crocheting, and watching and feeding the
birds. She made afghans and mittens for
family and friends. She was an avid reader
of harlequin romances and enjoyed swapping the stories with her sisters. She sewed skirts and aprons and enjoyed
painting wood silhouettes.
She is survived by her
husband, Donald of 58 years; her four children, Donald Goodwin, Jr. and
his wife, Judy, of Pittsfield, Daryl Goodwin of Pittsfield, Delinda
Coombs and her partner, John Reid, of Lawrence, MA, and Dale Goodwin of
Pittsfield; two grandchildren, Donald Goodwin III of Portland and
Jennifer Goodwin of Warwick, RI, and one brother, Orlando Bates, Jr.,
of Pittsfield.
She was predeceased by
her two sisters, Gloria Morgan and Marilyn Cook.
